Along the way South African participants and International team-members will be joining the expedition for periods of time. 34 days to go! That means only 4 more of these weekly updates until you will be hearing from us via our expedition 4×4!
The 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) kicks off in Durban, SA tomorrow and The EXPEDITION Project will have a mini representation there thanks to Climate Smart Cape Town & Trees4Schools. I think one of our only regrets of 2011 is that we didn’t manage to get enough funding to be there ourselves.
Trees4Schools are attempting to raise funding for the 200 trees we need to plant as a minimum commitment in 2012 to help offset our carbon emissions produced during our expedition. Suzanne from T4S will be championing this effort from the 28th November – 9th December 2011 at COP17 in Durban.
Planning for our annual BEACH Festival continued with the planning of your Buffalo Bay, Knysna and Myoli Beach, Sedgefield events. If you are able to make then join us on the 16th and 29th December 2011 respectively.
We are proud to announce that our 4×4 for our maiden expeditions will be….an Isuzu Trooper! This hardy and trustworthy vehicle looks the part so let’s just hope it plays the part! This week was spent doing a few modifications and re-wiring and next week we will be branding the exterior as well as fixing up the interior slightly with a few expedition touches.
Its almost December and the holiday, family and of course gift season is just around the corner so we thought it would be fitting for us to make our own wish list for The EXPEDITION Project stocking! If you are able to help with any of these items please let us know:

41 days to go!
A lot of things were happening in Cape Town this week that The EXPEDITION Project team wasn’t able to attend which was rather annoying. We do however hope that things went well for the Fairtrade SA week and cocktail party on Friday, as well as Climate Smart Cape Town’s Inspiring Change week which included a feast of lectures and networking at the CTICC and Africa’s first ‘carottmob’ on Friday and then various other CSCT activities over the weekend! To Arianna and her team from Fairtrade and Julia and her team from CSCT – we hope it was a successfull week!
We had some good news from one of the world’s oldest and biggest surf brands, none other than Quiksilver, who confirmed that would like to sponsor our 2012 expedition with a range of products and accessories/prizes. But even better is the fact that Dane Patterson, Quiksilver’s Marketing Manager, is inviting some of the Quiksilver sponsored pro surfers to join The EXPEDITION Project team on the two coastal legs of our journey! Cannot wait for that!
Planning for our annual BEACH Festival is now in full swing with Renee heading up operations in the Garden Route for our Knysna and Sedgefield events. It is such a shame that we wont be able to have an event in Cape Town as planned this year, but we will make sure that when The BEACH Festival does reach Cape Town – it will be huge!
Finally our http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk 60 day fundraising campaign kicked off on Tuesday – giving us, yes you guessed it – 60 days to raise 1000 GBP. The aim of this is two fold:
- We still require some sponsorship for our 2012 journey – mainly for our fuel costs
- It is a fun way to tell more people about what we do and how they can help!
If you would like to sponsor 10 GBP – find out how here !
Before we forget, a massive thank you must go out to ShowMe Cape Town , Motivate Cape Town and What’s Up Cape Town , for your ongoing support and assistance in raising awareness through your various advertising mediums and networks – Thank you!
Until next week!
The EXPEDITION Project Team,
Cape Town, South Africa
